Zentvelds Coffee Farm – Afternoon Activities in Lexis Byron Bay
Our students recently enjoyed a fantastic excursion to Zentveld’s Coffee Farm in the beautiful Byron Bay hinterland, where they experienced a true “crop to cup” journey and learned all about Australian-grown coffee. Zentveld’s is a family-owned coffee farm and roastery in Newrybar, just outside Byron Bay, known for its sustainable farming practices and guided plantation tours hosted by owner Rebecca Zentveld.
The afternoon began with a warm welcome from Rebecca, who guided us through the plantation and introduced students to the fascinating story of coffee farming in Australia. During the tour, students learned how coffee is grown, harvested, processed, roasted, and packaged right on-site.
Walking through the rows of coffee trees, students could see firsthand how much work goes into producing a single cup of coffee. Rebecca shared insights into the unique challenges and rewards of growing coffee in the Byron Bay region, as well as the farm’s strong focus on sustainability and regenerative farming.
One of the highlights of the day was meeting some of the farm’s animal residents. Students were excited to spot wallabies hopping nearby, observe the farm’s busy bees and learn about their important role in pollination, and say hello to the friendly chickens wandering around the property.
Students also visited the processing and roasting areas, where they discovered what happens after coffee cherries are picked. Seeing the machinery up close helped everyone understand how coffee beans go from farm to cup.
Of course, no visit to a coffee farm would be complete without taking in the stunning Byron Bay hinterland views. The farm’s peaceful setting made it a memorable outdoor learning experience and a great opportunity for students to connect with local agriculture and sustainability.
