International Lunch at Lexis Byron Bay: A Flavorful Celebration of Cultures!
Last Friday, we had an exciting and delicious international lunch at Lexis Byron Bay, where almost 40 students participated, bringing a variety of dishes from different corners of the world. The event was a fantastic opportunity to taste unique foods and share something meaningful from each student’s culture. It was a day of connection, flavor, and fun, and we can’t wait for the next international lunch!
Here’s a look at some of the mouthwatering dishes that were brought by our talented students:
From Spain :
- Tortilla de Patatas (Spanish Omelette) – A traditional Spanish dish made with eggs, potatoes, and onions.
- Huevos Rellenos & Patatas Bravas (Stuffed Eggs & Spicy Potatoes) – A delicious combination of hard-boiled eggs stuffed with savory fillings and crispy, spicy potatoes.
- Pan con Tomate & Spanish Salad – Toasted bread rubbed with fresh tomatoes and garlic, paired with a refreshing Spanish salad.
- Gazpacho – A chilled tomato-based soup, perfect for warm weather, made with fresh vegetables like cucumbers, peppers, and onions.
From Brazil :
- Brigadeiro – A beloved Brazilian chocolate truffle made from condensed milk, cocoa, and butter.
- Bolinho de Chuva – These are traditional Brazilian “rain cakes,” fluffy and slightly sweet, often enjoyed with a hot drink.
- Pão de Queijo – These are cheese-filled bread rolls that are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, a Brazilian snack favorite!
From Czech Republic :
- Camping Salát – A refreshing salad made with a mix of simple ingredients like cabbage, peppers, and beans, typically served as a side dish during outdoor camping.
From France :
- Apple Cake / Tarte Tatin – A classic French dessert made with caramelized apples, either as a cake or as an upside-down tart.
- Quiche Lorraine – A savory pie made with a rich filling of eggs, cream, bacon, and cheese, typical of the Lorraine region in France.
- Crêpes – Thin, delicate pancakes that can be filled with a variety of sweet or savory fillings.
From Belgium :
- Peach with Tuna – A unique and refreshing combination of sweet peach and savory tuna.
- French Fries – Belgium’s famous fries, often served with a variety of sauces – crispy and golden!
From Switzerland :
- Spätzle – A delicious type of soft egg noodle, often served as a side dish, brought by Jael and Myriam.
- Zopf – A traditional Swiss braided bread, slightly sweet and soft, often enjoyed on Sundays or during special occasions, brought by Marvin and Nadine.
- Rösti – A crispy and savory potato dish, similar to hashbrowns, brought by Livia and Yara.
- Bruschetta – A delicious Italian appetizer made with toasted bread, garlic, olive oil, and tomatoes, brought by Timoteo.
- Bircher Muesli – A Swiss breakfast favorite made with oats, yogurt, and fresh fruit, brought by Therese.
From Japan :
- Sushi – Kohei brought fresh, flavorful sushi, showcasing a traditional Japanese dish of vinegared rice with seafood or vegetables.
- Okonomiyaki – Mariko and Erika shared this savory pancake made with flour, eggs, cabbage, and other ingredients like pork or seafood, topped with a delicious sauce.
From Mexico :
- Huevos a la Mexicana – Andres and Maximiliano brought this popular breakfast dish made with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, onions, and chili peppers, giving it a flavorful, spicy kick.
- Tinga de Pollo – Andres also brought this mouthwatering dish made with shredded chicken cooked in a smoky, spicy sauce of chipotle chilies, tomatoes, and garlic. It’s perfect in tacos or tostadas!
From Argentina :
- Argentinian Wine – Rita shared some excellent Argentinian wine, a great pairing for the delicious food.
- Pancakes with Dulce de Leche – Sweet pancakes topped with a rich caramel spread, a typical treat in Argentina.
- Empanadas – These delicious turnovers filled with savory ingredients like beef, chicken, or cheese, are a beloved snack in Argentina.
From Italy :
- Tiramisu – Daeva and Audrey brought this classic Italian dessert made of layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and cocoa powder, creating a deliciously rich and creamy treat.
It was a truly special day filled with incredible dishes from all over the world. Everyone had a wonderful time sharing their culture through food, and it was an experience we’ll never forget. We are already looking forward to the next international lunch!
