Melbourne Cup: Cheers to the race that stops the nation!
Yesterday our students at Lexis Manly got to experience one of Australia’s largest sporting events with a taste of local culture! Students from all classes, and teachers joined to watch the ‘Melbourne Cup’ at one of our local pubs. Melbourne Cup is Australia’s best known horse racing event held on the first Thursday of November every year. From cheering on the horses to soaking in the lively Aussie pub vibe, it was a fantastic day of fun and new memories. 
The Melbourne Cup, known as “the race that stops the nation,” is a huge celebration across Australia. Watching it at the pub is one of the best ways to catch the race in a lively atmosphere, to meet new friends, and soak up classic Aussie culture. From the electric energy of the crowd to the clinking of drinks in celebration, our students were in for a memorable experience.
Once the race begins, our students were in for a thrilling few minutes! The energy of the crowd builds as everyone watches, cheers, and laughs. Many Aussies enjoy betting on the Melbourne Cup, even if they’re not usually into horse racing. Some of our students participated in the betting, and amazingly one of our students, Luana, bet on the horses that won 1st, 2nd & 2rd place – this is known as a ‘trifecta.’
The Melbourne Cup is more than just a race; it’s an event that brings people together. Whether your horse wins or not, the day is all about sharing good times with friends and experiencing Australian culture. Our students had lots of fun joining together to enjoy one of Australia’s most iconic sporting days!
