Byron Bay – Welcome to this week’s new starters – 24 April 2023

This week, we are delighted to welcome 4 new starters to Lexis Byron Bay: Audrey from Switzerland, Yurie and Shunno from Japan and Benyapa from Thailand.

This Week'S New Starters At Lexis Byron Bay

Audrey is from the French part of Switzerland and was originally going to study in England. Then she realised that, if she came to Byron Bay she could combine English with Surfing and the decision was made. She is currently in her final year of school and deciding what to study for university. She thinks possibly medicine as both her parents and her sister are doctors. During her programme here, Audrey will study 4 weeks of English and Surfing. While she has only surfed once before, I’m sure she’ll be a natural as she is a keen dancer and badminton player.

Yurie, from Japan, has already been in Australia for 4 years. She came on a working holiday visa, met an Aussie guy while surfing and has never looked back. Interestingly, in all the time she has been here, she has never studied English. So now it’s time. She said that she wants to understand the rules behind difficult grammar points such as articles. She actually lives in Coff’s Harbour but will travel up each week and stay in her van while she is studying.

Shunno came to Australia because he loves the nature, wants to get into surfing and wants to learn English so that he can communicate with people from all over the world. Shunno did Scandinavian studies at university in Japan and said he speaks some Swedish but not well. With English, he finds writing particularly difficult so we hope to help him gain confidence in this and all aspects of English during his 12 weeks at the school.

Finally, Benyapa is the second member of her family to come to Lexis Byron Bay. Her brother already studies here in our Pre-Intermediate class. Ben has just completed her degree in Tourism and Hotel Management in Thailand, so needs to improve her English for her career. In her spare time, Ben enjoys music and movies, especially Korean films and she is looking forward to making friends in Australia.
