On Friday our students embarked on a scrumptious journey through the harmonious world of cheese and wine pairing.
We delved into three exquisite wines – Prosecco, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon – paired with three scrumptious cheeses – Brie, Camembert, and Aged Cheddar.
A cheese and wine tasting workshop can foster social connection by providing a relaxed and enjoyable environment for students to make new friends. The tasting notes encourage conversation and shared experiences, enhancing the student’s social bonds. Additionally, participants can learn about different cultures through the diverse varieties of cheese and wine on offer!
Our tasting adventure began with the delicious Prosecco. This Italian sparkling wine, known for its crisp and refreshing nature, provided a perfect opening act for our trio. When paired with creamy Brie, the sparkling bubbles cut through the richness, creating a palate-cleansing sensation. The contrast of textures and flavours enhanced both the wine and cheese, offering a delightful start to our tasting journey!
Next was the vibrant Sauvignon Blanc. Hailing from various wine regions, this white wine brings a zesty character. Pairing it with velvety Camembert unveils a symphony of contrasting notes. The wine’s acidity complements the creamy texture of the cheese, while the undertones add depth to the tasting experience.
Our scrumptious tasting adventure reached its finale with the bold and robust Cabernet Sauvignon. This red wine, characterized by its full-bodied nature and dark fruit flavours, demands a cheese partner that can stand up to its intensity. Enter, Aged Cheddar – its sharpness and complexity mirror the boldness of the Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a dynamic pairing. The interplay between the wine’s tannins and the cheese’s richness results in a symphony of flavours that linger long after each sip.
In addition to enjoying the wine and cheese, the students enjoyed an afternoon of good company, laughs, and sharing stories!
