Experiencing a true Aussie BBQ on the Noosa River
On Thursday after class, our students traded their textbooks for tongs and their classrooms for the stunning Noosa River foreshore. With the sunshine beaming down and a gentle breeze drifting off the water, the scene was set for a quintessential Aussie BBQ experience.
As the sizzling aroma of sausages filled the air, everybody chipped in to help cook the BBQ on the public grills. For many, it was their first experience of a proper Aussie barbie and it was sure to be an unforgettable one.
The group got to try a sausage sizzle, which is an Australian BBQ classic – a grilled sausage wrapped in a slice of bread with some onions and condiments thrown on there too.
We had some music playing, threw a Frisbee around and watched as paddleboarders glided gracefully along the water. Conversations flowed effortlessly—students shared stories about their home countries, their English-learning journeys, and their favourite parts of life in Noosa.
After the first course, we chucked a couple of Kangaroo steaks onto the BBQ. This was something not many students had tried before but they were keen to experience a delicacy that can’t be found elsewhere. There were mixed reviews for this one as it split the group as to whether they were fans or not.
After a couple of hours, it was time to tidy up and head home. With full bellies and happy memories, it was more than just a BBQ; it was a celebration of connection, culture, and the joy of learning together.
