IELTS
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.
The course covers both the academic and general training tasks and requirements for the or a university or in vocational courses in Australia and other English speaking countries. It is also useful for learners who wish to show their English level for employment purposes in their own countries.
Course Schedule June 15 to August 4
Monday : 5 hours
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 4 hours + 1 hour GIL
Friday: 3 hours + Choice or Grammar Workshop or Activity Program
Places are limited for this course and priority is given to students who intend to sit for an IELTS exam. There will be pre-testing on Thursday June 4 at 9 am
ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS
A practical course for students who need English for their work or who wish to work in English speaking countries. The course will provide a wide range of business settings and situations in which students can practice and improve their communication skills in English and become more confident, more fluent and more accurate.
The course will include:
- Integrated Activities to include reading, listening and writing tasks as well as discussion, problem solving and presentations.
- Role Play will involve simulated telephone conversations, email and MSN messenger conversations and work place situations. Role plays are done in pairs or small groups so that everyone has a chance to participate.
- Vocabulary is introduced through context and exercises and includes the functional language required in business situations.
- Visits to local businesses

CAMBRIDGE FIRST CERTIFICATE
This course will follow the syllabus required to pass the prestigious Cambridge First Certificate exam. These exams are presently held three times a year in March, September and December. The course is suitable for students who wish to take the exam or enter a Cambridge course in September, either in their own country or in Australia.
The first certificate is an upper intermediate level exam which requires students to be able to cope confidently with a range of written and spoken communications. A pass at this level indicates proficiency in English for use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries, particularly tourism. It is also useful for academic courses such Vocational Training courses which are offered at our local TAFE campuses.
