We had a ball today at Lexis English, as a group of us came together for a Zumba session! Some of us were seasoned Zumba dancers, while for others it was a first. What’s great about Zumba is that you don’t need any experience in dancing or routines to participate!

Throughout the session, our instructor broke down each dance into manageable steps, so it was easy to follow along. We took breaks in between songs, grabbing cold water to keep ourselves hydrated – a necessity given how much we were moving and grooving! It didn’t take long for us to work up a sweat, but it was the good kind, fueled by laughter, giggles, and the joy of letting go of our inhibitions and dancing freely to the infectious beats.

Now, let’s dive a bit into the history and roots of Zumba. This energetic dance fitness program has its origins in Colombia, birthed by Alberto “Beto” Perez in the 1990s. What started as an improvised fitness class in Beto’s hometown soon exploded into a global phenomenon. Zumba combines elements of Latin and international music with dance moves from styles like salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, and more. This fusion creates a dynamic, high-energy workout that doesn’t feel like exercise at all – it feels like a party!

One of the key aspects of Zumba is its diverse music selection. From Latin rhythms to pop hits and even occasional hip-hop beats, Zumba playlists are designed to keep you moving and motivated. The music sets the tone for each dance, whether it’s a fast-paced salsa or a slower bachata, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy and groove to.

As we danced away at Lexis English, it was clear how Zumba has become a global favorite. It’s not just about the physical workout; it’s about the sense of community, the joy of movement, and the freedom to express ourselves through dance. For students immersed in a week of study, this Zumba session was a refreshing break that recharged us with energy and positivity.

Looking ahead, we’re eagerly anticipating the next Zumba session. It’s more than just exercise – it’s a celebration of life, music, and the wonderful connections we make through shared experiences. Until then, we’ll keep the Zumba spirit alive, dancing our way through the rest of the week with renewed vigor and enthusiasm. Cheers to Zumba, and here’s to many more dance-filled adventures at Lexis English!
