Love was in the air at Lexis English Brisbane campus this Valentine’s Day. With hearts aflutter and smiles abundant, students gathered to celebrate love and appreciation in a variety of creative ways.

The festivities began at our love and appreciation station, strategically placed at reception. Here, students had the opportunity to express their affection by writing heartfelt notes for their peers, teachers, or anyone special in their lives. These notes were then proudly displayed on a dedicated board, awaiting their recipients’ joyful discovery. It was a simple yet meaningful gesture that encapsulated the spirit of Valentine’s Day beautifully.

But the celebration didn’t stop there. After classes concluded for the day, students eagerly participated in a crafty session filled with love-themed activities. From folding delicate origami creations to crafting handmade cards and decorations, each student embarked on their own creative journey, guided by their unique inspirations. The atmosphere was one of free-flowing creativity, with students exchanging tips and tricks, laughter filling the air, and the soothing melodies of Ed Sheeran providing the perfect backdrop for artistic expression.

And what better way to celebrate this love than by coming together in a warm and inclusive environment like Lexis?

Of course, no Valentine’s Day celebration would be complete without a touch of sweetness. As students indulged in their creative endeavors, they also enjoyed some delicious chocolate biscuits, adding an extra dash of delight to the afternoon’s festivities. It was a perfect blend of creativity, camaraderie, and indulgence—a true reflection of the spirit of Valentine’s Day at Lexis English Brisbane.

As we basked in the warmth of friendship and creativity, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the history of Valentine’s Day and how couples have celebrated this special day in Australia, both in the past and today.

Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, traces its origins back to ancient Roman times, with the festival of Lupercalia celebrated on February 15th. Over time, this pagan festival evolved into a Christian feast day commemorating St. Valentine, a third-century Roman saint associated with love and romance.

In Australia, Valentine’s Day has been celebrated since the early days of European settlement, albeit in more subdued fashion compared to today’s extravagant gestures. In the past, couples exchanged handwritten love letters, adorned with intricate calligraphy and sealed with wax. Romantic picnics in the countryside or leisurely strolls along the beach were also popular ways to mark the occasion.

So getting crafty.
Today, Valentine’s Day in Australia is a vibrant and diverse celebration, with couples indulging in a wide range of activities to express their love and affection. From romantic dinners at fancy restaurants to adventurous weekend getaways, the possibilities are endless. However, amidst all the grand gestures, it’s the simple moments of connection and appreciation, like those shared at Lexis English Brisbane, that truly capture the essence of Valentine’s Day.
