Brisbane: Incredible friendship bracelets- 13th September 2024

At Lexis English, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Recently, we hosted a unique and creative activity that brought students together to express their individuality while fostering a sense of community. Under the guidance of Teacher Isabel, our international students had the opportunity to make personalized friendship bracelets—a beautiful way to blend cultural traditions and artistic expression.

The activity began with a warm introduction from Teacher Isabel, who explained the significance of friendship bracelets in various cultures. She shared that in many countries, giving someone a friendship bracelet is a symbol of affection, trust, and a lasting bond. For many of our students, this was their first time hearing about the tradition, and it sparked enthusiasm as they thought about making a bracelet for a close friend or family member.

As students gathered around tables filled with colorful threads, beads, and other decorative materials, the atmosphere was alive with excitement. Teacher Isabel demonstrated different knotting techniques and patterns, from simple braids to more intricate designs like the chevron or spiral knot. The students, many of whom were from diverse cultural backgrounds, shared their own ideas and inspirations, adding a personal touch to their creations.

One of the highlights of the activity was seeing how the students supported each other throughout the process. Some found the intricate patterns challenging at first, but with guidance from Isabel and their peers, everyone was able to master the basics and create something unique. “I didn’t think I could do it at first, but with help, I made a bracelet for my best friend back home,” said Maria from Brazil, proudly holding up her colorful creation.

Throughout the session, conversations flowed easily, with students sharing stories about their home countries and the special people in their lives. The act of crafting together created a relaxed and collaborative environment, where language barriers faded, and the focus was on connection.

By the end of the workshop, each student had not only crafted a beautiful bracelet but had also learned something new about their classmates’ cultures. This simple yet meaningful activity reminded us all of the importance of kindness, friendship, and community—values we hold dear at Lexis English.
