Student Spotlight: Myriam’s Amazing Adventure in Byron Bay
Myriam is 21 years old and comes from Switzerland. She began her English journey with Lexis Byron Bay on February 17th, staying with us for eight unforgettable weeks. During her time here, she made the absolute most of her Australian experience — soaking up the sun, embracing new adventures, and making friendships that will last a lifetime. Let’s take a closer look at what Myriam had to say about her time in Byron Bay.
Why Did You Choose Byron Bay?
I chose Byron Bay because I love small towns – I come from a small country, so big cities are not common for me. I also really wanted to experience beach life and thought that Byron had both things I wanted. The location of the school and accommodation was absolutely perfect — just a few blocks from the beach and the centre of town. It was so easy to get around, relax, and enjoy everything this beautiful place has to offer.
What Have Been Your Favourite Memories at Lexis Byron?
My favourite memories include meeting people from all over the world and making close friends — especially Laura, who started the same day as me. We connected instantly! I also went skydiving, which was a dream come true. One of the best things about Lexis is how friendly and welcoming everyone is — the staff, the students, and the people around town.
️ What Would You Say to Future Students?
If you’re looking for a place where you can balance studying and enjoying the beach, this is the perfect spot. It’s a relaxed environment where you can improve your English while also living your best life by the ocean.
How Was Your Accommodation Experience?
I stayed in the on-site student accommodation, right below the school, and it was so convenient. I met so many people there and never felt alone. I loved how close it was to everything — Woolworths, the beach, cafes. The hostel felt more like a big community than just a place to stay, and that made my experience even better.
What’s Next After Lexis?
After my time at Lexis, I planned a 5-week road trip up the East Coast of Australia — from Byron Bay to Cairns! I’ve planned my whole trip with Chiara, Dundee’s travel agent. I’ll be stopping at amazing places like Fraser Island and the Whitsundays, where I’ll meet up with Irene, another student from Lexis. I’ll also visit Magnetic Island to see Marina, and after the road trip, I’ll fly to Melbourne and Sydney to catch up with Camille and Maiwenn — more lovely friends I made during my time at Lexis.
What Activities Did You Enjoy the Most?
I really enjoyed the Waves to Waterfalls tour with Let’s Go Surfing — such a beautiful day out! I also loved the International Lunch, and all the creative activities like boomerang painting and making friendship bracelets. Bodyboarding and tennis were super fun too. There was always something to do and people to enjoy it with!
From skydiving and surfing to sharing meals and laughs with new friends, Myriam truly embraced the Byron Bay lifestyle. We’re so proud to have been part of her journey and can’t wait to hear more about her adventures around Australia!
