Today our Happy Student at Lexis Byron Bay is Fiorella from Advanced!
Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Fiorella, I am 29 years old and I am from Uruguay. I came to know and live the experience of a new country like Australia with my boyfriend Ernesto. One of my characteristics and from what my friends describe me is that I am very smiling and cheerful, I love and enjoy laughing and making people around me laugh. At the same time I consider myself fun and adventurous, I love living new experiences, but on the other hand my other twin, because in my zodiac I am Gemini haha I am a calm, positive person and I really enjoy nature, being in the garden of my house , etc. As a good Uruguayan I like to drink mate and make BBQs with friends.
Why did you choose Byron Bay?
It’s funny because I feel like Byron Bay chose me, before coming to Australia. I had applied to work as a workaway, it is a way of traveling the world, working in exchange for accommodation and food. I was lucky that the first place they responded to me to do it was Byron Bay, coincidence or destination haha. At the same time Byron was a place that I loved since it is very similar to where I live in Uruguay and it makes me feel at home, its nature, its beaches, its tranquility in winter, its good vibes.
What were your weaknesses in English before you came to Australia? Tell me more about your teachers and your classes.
Before arriving in Australia my reality with English was very bad, it was really difficult for me to understand and being able to communicate was very difficult, not being able to speak and having a chat with a person through the language was very frustrating for me. Since I love being able to talk and meet new people from all over the world. For me, language was a great barrier. When I started at Lexis School, I remember that I was in Pre-intermediate my teacher was Michelle, from that day I began a new stage of learning, the weeks went by and I could not believe how I was progressing in English, my boyfriend noticed my change and was happy for me.
I thank each teacher that I have had during this long process and I have been in school for a year and 2 months, Michelle, Kathleen, Mel, Adrianne, Jose and Elizabeth have been the best, always with the best energy and generating an environment so cute, caring about helping me improve and teaching in a fun and proactive way, having fun talks and laughing at some comment or something I did haha.
Since the day I arrived at school I have only met beautiful people and I have made good friends, in my classes the cultural exchange is so great, I have had classmates from all over the world, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Switzerland, Chile, Italy, with whom I have had a lot of fun, I have learned a lot about their cultures and I have taken the most beautiful memories.
What are your favourite things to do in Byron?
In Byron I really enjoy going to the lighthouse in the morning, walking from Wategos and going up the stairs, I try to do it running sometimes hahaha, it seems to me a place with a unique and infinite view, many times you see a group of dolphins and wow it is totally magical mind. It gives me a lot of calm and at the same time a lot of energy.
Another thing I love about Byron is going to the beach, my favorites are Tallow and Belongil and Captain Cook, I love going to swim in the sea and it’s great to be able to Snorkel when the tide is calm, to be able to see colorful fish, rays and maybe some turtle, my favorite part is the Sunken Ship in Belongil.
Making BBQs on the beaches is one of my favorite things, it is something that I find so nice to be able to be in front of the sea, cooking with a unique view, sharing a pleasant moment with friends.
And finally something that makes Byron unique, and that I loved was when there were musicians everywhere in the streets playing, I think that art gives life and joy to the town and to all of us who walk there.
What is your most magical moment in Byron?
My most magical moment in Byron has been when I have seen the sunrise from the lighthouse and from Wategos in the lookout, it is the magic of seeing the sun born from the infinity of the ocean, I think it is a unique magic where there is so much peace that is he lives and the colors, the light and the energy he feels are so beautiful.

Thanks to lexis in a short time I have been able to communicate and speak a language that for me had always been so difficult, something that for me was a barrier, I see myself before and after I started and the changes are very great.
