Sunshine Coast – Wonderful Meditation Class – 2 May

On Wednesday afternoon our students took part in a meditation workshop, led by our wonderful student teacher, Paula.

In today’s fast-paced world, where the demands of life can feel overwhelming, many seek solace in the ancient practice of meditation. Beyond its spiritual roots, meditation has gained widespread recognition for its numerous mental, emotional, and physical benefits.

Meditation is renowned for its ability to alleviate stress and promote mindfulness. By focusing on the present moment and cultivating a non-judgmental awareness, individuals can break free from the grip of anxiety and stress. Regular practice has been linked to reduced cortisol levels, fostering a sense of calm and balance in daily life.

As Headspace says, ”Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment. And eventually, you may start to better understand them as well.”

Meditation 2 Scaled

The wonderful Paula guided us through movement, breathwork and meditation. Movement practice is rooted in the concept of synchronizing breath, body, and mind through deliberate, intentional movements. Paula guided us through a pattern of 12 different movements. Once we had picked up the movement flow, we repeated this as many times as we felt necessary.

Breathwork refers to intentional control of one’s breath for various purposes, such as relaxation, stress reduction, or enhancing mental focus. Techniques may include deep breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, or specific patterns like alternate nostril breathing. Paula guided us through two different techniques, one to calm and one to energise, bringing our complete focus to our breath. We finished the session with a meditation, implementing the new techniques that we had practiced. It was a beautiful, calming session and the students left feeling uplifted.
