Sunshine Coast – Pizza and Board Games

A Fun Afternoon of Board Games and Pizza with Friends

There’s something about spending a lazy afternoon with friends, surrounded by the comforting scent of melting cheese and the competitive energy of a good board game. Today, we had the perfect mix of both—board games and pizza—creating an afternoon full of laughter, friendly rivalry, and great memories. If you’re looking for a way to unwind with friends, you can’t go wrong with this classic combo!

Pizza And Board Games

Setting the Stage

The sun was shining, and the aircon was pumping. Everyone gathered at the Sunshine Coast campus for a low-key afternoon of food and games. Naturally, the first thing on the agenda was pizza—because what better way to kick off a game day than with cheesy, doughy goodness?

We ordered a few pizzas: classic pepperoni, cheesy margherita, and a vegan option. The pizza arrived piping hot, and we dug in without hesitation, making sure to grab enough slices for a good game-fueled energy boost.

Game Time!

Once the pizza was devoured (and the grease wiped off our fingers), it was time to bring out the games. We kept it simple but fun with a mix of old favorites. Here’s what we played:

1. Jenga: We kicked things off with Jenga, the classic stacking game where players take turns pulling wooden blocks from a tower and balancing them on top without toppling the whole thing. It’s deceptively simple but ridiculously fun—and as the tower gets taller and wobblier, the tension builds. Each time someone made a precarious move, there was a collective gasp, followed by a burst of laughter when it all came crashing down. The excitement kept us hooked for several rounds. The way everyone leaned in, holding their breath with every pull, was honestly more thrilling than most action movies.

2. Uno: Next, we brought out Uno, the card game that never fails to spark both competitive fire and absurdly funny moments. The rules are simple, but don’t let that fool you—Uno can get intense. We had some heated moments of “Uno!” shouts, followed by dramatic reversals of fortune that led to uproarious laughter. The real fun came when someone would skip another player right before they were about to win, or when a “Draw Four” card was played at just the right moment to crush someone’s dreams. It’s the kind of game where you can easily go from being the frontrunner to being dead last in one swift move, and it always leaves you wanting just one more round.

3. Guess Who: After a few rounds of Uno, we switched things up with Guess Who, the classic 2-player guessing game where you ask yes/no questions to figure out which character your opponent has. It turned into a hilarious game of logic, strategy, and a bit of luck. The fun part of Guess Who isn’t just the game itself—it’s the ridiculous questions you end up asking in the heat of the moment. “Does your person wear glasses? No. Okay, so is your person… a giraffe?” The absurdity of the questions only added to the fun, and every time someone guessed the wrong character, we all burst into laughter.

4. Charades: Finally, we ended the afternoon with a game of Charades. This is where the real comedy gold happened. If you’ve ever played charades with a group of friends, you know it’s a blend of creativity, physicality, and sometimes a bit of embarrassing interpretative dance. One person acts out a word or phrase without speaking, and the others have to guess what it is. The best part is when you’re trying to convey something so simple, but it turns into complete nonsense. “Is it a fruit? No. Is it a movie? Yes!” Suddenly, someone is pretending to ride a horse while making dinosaur noises, and everyone is just trying to keep it together. The sheer absurdity of it all makes charades the perfect game to wrap up the day.

The Magic of the Afternoon

What truly stood out wasn’t just the games themselves but the way we all connected. The world outside seemed to fade away as we laughed, teased each other, and tried to outsmart one another in each game. No one was glued to their phones—everyone was present, enjoying the moment. We reminisced about old times, told funny stories, and found ourselves in a few inside jokes that will surely last until the next game day.

The best part? It didn’t matter who won or lost. Whether it was toppling the Jenga tower or pulling off a perfect Uno comeback, the fun came from just being together and enjoying each other’s company. It was one of those afternoons where time seemed to slow down, and the simple joys of good food and good friends made everything else feel a little less important.
