The Perfect Day for a Picnic!

On Wednesday, a huge group of our Lexis legends visited Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens to enjoy a lovely picnic! Whether they brought their own food or shared with friends, it was so nice to relax on the beautiful green grass and soak up the sun.

We’ve all heard of picnics, and chances are, most of us have enjoyed one or two. The French Revolution popularised the ‘picnic’ all across the world and French aristocrats fled to other Western countries, ready to share their picnicking traditions. Later, in 1802, over 200 atristocratic Londoners formed the Pic Nic Society – essetntially a gathering of very fancy and die-hard ‘picnickers’. Now, we may not all be aristocrats but to this day, do enjoy a relaxing picnic. There was lemonade, chips, strawberries, lollies, chocolate, Tim Tams, sushi, salads and cookies for as far as the eye could see and everyone enjoyed chowing down and chatting to one another under our beautiful Queensland sun.

The Botanic Gardens are located in the heart of Brisbane and is a stunning and diverse botanical paradise, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. These gardens are a beloved attraction for both locals and tourists alike, providing a serene setting to explore nature, learn about plants, and enjoy the outdoors. Situated on the banks of the Brisbane River, the gardens cover approximately 56 hectares (138 acres) and are conveniently located close to the city center. This prime location not only makes it easily accessible but also provides breathtaking views of the river and the city skyline. With luscious green grass, gorgeous flowers and a view of clear, blue skies, it truly is the perfect escape.

The afternoon allowed our students the opportunity to appreciate the stunning natural beauty of the gardens. The Brisbane River flowing nearby, the vibrant greenery, and the colorful flora provided a tranquil backdrop for relaxation and reflection. Our lovely picnic was a delightful blend of nature appreciation and cultural exchange. It highlighted the power of language learning in bringing people from diverse backgrounds together and was definitely an experience that showcased the best of Brisbane’s natural beauty.
