Noosa – A Festive Journey of English Learning and Creative Decoration – 13 December

Building Sweet Festive Memories and Language Skills.

This afternoon, Lexis English Noosa transformed into a sugary wonderland as students gathered for a delightful and educational activity – decorating gingerbread houses and creating a whimsical ginger village.

Building Sweet Festive Memories And Language Skills.

The air was filled with the sweet and aroma of ginger, and the excitement of English learners ready to embark on a creatively journey.

As the students settled into the wonderfully festive atmosphere, each festive table was adorned with an array of gingerbread houses, gingerbread men, and an assortment of colourful icing, candies, and other edible decorations.

Beyond the sugary delights, this activity served as a unique and language learning opportunity.

Students were encouraged to communicate with their peers, exchanging ideas and discussing their design plans in English. The task of decorating gingerbread houses provided a practical platform for them to practice vocabulary related to colours and shapes.

Queen Elizabeth I is credited with the idea of decorating the cookies in this fashion, after she had some made to resemble the dignitaries visiting her court.

Over time some of these festivals came to be known as Gingerbread Fairs, and the gingerbread cookies served there were known as ‘fairings.’

Gingerbread houses originated in Germany during the 16th century. The elaborate cookie-walled houses, decorated with foil in addition to gold leaf, became associated with Christmas tradition.

Amidst the festive atmosphere at Lexis English, students eagerly added another layer of merriment to their creative endeavours by incorporating bon bons crackers into the mix.

The sound of cracking crackers and the sight of shared laughter further heightened the festive spirit, turning the gingerbread decoration gathering into a truly unforgettable celebration of both language and festive cheer.
