This week’s activities were perfect blend of fun, food and culture! We enjoyed watching an English movie and unique Australian food.

14th June : Movie afternoon

On Friday afternoon, students gathered for a cozy movie afternoon. We watched a popular English movie – perfect opportunity to improve listening to natural spoken English, understand cultural humor, pick up new expressions and slang in a relaxed environment.

Students grabbed some popcorn and hot chocolates which were great combinations with movie. There was lots of laughter during the funny scenes and even some discussions afterward about the characters and story.

After the film, a few students stayed behind to talk about their favorite parts all in English showing how much a movie can spark connection and communication.

25th June : Aussie Food Tasting

One of the most popular activity at Lexis Perth is Aussie food tasting! Our students tried various savory food. This time, we focused on heaty, salty, and traditional Aussie style flavors.

Here is the menu ;

• Vegemite toast : A very salty, dark spread. Just a little on toast with butter does the trick.

• Sausage roll : A warm pastry with sausage filling.

• Meat(beef) party pie : A mini meat pie with beef and gravy inside, bite-sized Aussie favorite.

• Quiche : A savory pie filled with egg, cheese and veggies.

• Bacon and cheese roll : A cheesy soft bread roll with bacon on top.

• Beef jerky : Dried beef with salty and smoky flavor, a very popular snack.

• Vegemite shapes : Crispy biscuits flavored with cheese and Vegemite whose shape is Australia.

• Twisties : A crunchy, twist-shaped corn snacks with cheesy flavor. Everybody loves!

For some, Vegemite was a new flavor (it tastes interesting..!), while others went back for the second on the beef pies. As students tasted each dish, they chatted about local food from their home countries and swapped reactions. This kind of hands-on activity does not just promote cultural understanding, but it also helps students build their vocabulary and expression in casual way.
