A Fun-Filled Blast Nutbush Dance!
Workshop at Lexis English Sunshine Coast!
Last Wednesday, October 16, 2024, students at Lexis English Sunshine Coast got to experience a slice of Australian culture with a fun and energetic Nutbush Dance workshop! The event was an absolute hit, as students learned the famous steps that Australians have been dancing to for decades. It was a fantastic time, filled with music, laughter, and moves from all around the world.
The Nutbush Dance has its roots in the classic song Nutbush City Limits by the legendary Tina Turner. Released in 1973, the song is a tribute to the small town of Nutbush, Tennessee, where Tina Turner grew up. Over the years, the song became associated with a line dance that has become a cultural staple in Australia, especially at social events and schools. Australians love to dance to the Nutbush, and in 2021, the country set a world record with over 1,700 people dancing to it simultaneously!
Nutbush Dance Fun!
During the workshop, not only did our students master the iconic Nutbush dance, but they also got to share moves from their own cultures. Students from introduced us to the famous Macarena by Los del Río and the catchy Ketchup Song by Las Ketchup from Spain. The music and dancing brought everyone together, highlighting the diversity of our student community.
It was a fantastic time—students had so much fun learning about Australian culture while sharing a bit of their own. The energy in the room was contagious, and it was incredible to see everyone come together through the universal language of music and dance.
