Lone Pine 1

A Wild Way to End the Week!

It has been a while since we have taken some of our Lexis Brisbane students to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and as usual, it did not dissapoint!

Nestled on the banks of the serene Brisbane River, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is a quintessential Queensland destination that offers a unique opportunity to interact with some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife. On Friday, a wonderful group of 10 Lexis legends embarked on a memorable journey to this renowned wildlife haven. Their day at the sanctuary was one filled with fascinating encounters and unforgettable memories. It was one hundred percent a ‘must do’ Australian experience!

Everyone began their day with excitement and anticipation as they made their way to Lone Pine, located just a short drive from Brisbane’s city center. The sanctuary is easily accessible, making it a perfect day trip for students looking to explore Australian wildlife and get a glimpse of some cute critters. Upon arrival, we were all greeted by the sanctuary’s friendly staff, who provided us with an informative overview of the sanctuary’s history and mission. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, established in 1927, is the world’s oldest and largest koala sanctuary. It is dedicated to the conservation and protection of Australia’s native wildlife, with a particular focus on the beloved koala.

Koalas, those iconic marsupials native to our beautiful country, face a multitude of threats that have led to a concerning decline in their populations. These threats encompass a range of issues, from habitat loss and climate change to disease and human activities. Understanding these threats is crucial for effective conservation efforts and places like Lone Pine help inform visitors of these threats and give everyone a chance to gain appreciation for these beautiful creatures.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to get up close and personal with these adorable koalas. Our students were thrilled to get a good look at these iconic marsupials and have the chance to hold them for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity. The sanctuary’s experienced staff provided valuable insights into koala behavior, habitat, and conservation efforts, making the encounter not only fun but also educational. Aside from koalas, we encountered kangaroos in spacious enclosures, where everyone could feed and interact with these gentle creatures. Feeding kangaroos  proved to be a memorable experience, as students marveled at their unique behaviors and learned about their importance in Australian ecosystems.

Lone Pine is also home to a wide variety of native Australian birds. The students had the opportunity to observe colorful lorikeets, majestic eagles, and cheeky kookaburras in their natural habitats. Feeding sessions and interactive bird shows provided a chance to learn about the diverse birdlife of Australia and their roles in the ecosystem. The  visit to Lone Pine  was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable encounters with Australia’s iconic wildlife. From cuddling koalas to feeding kangaroos and admiring colorful birds, their experiences at the sanctuary left a lasting impression.

Each time we take students to Lone Pine, this excursion not only allows them to connect with Australia’s natural heritage but also raises awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation. The sacntuary’s dedication to protecting native species serves as a shining example of how individuals and organizations can contribute to the preservation of our planet’s precious biodiversity. Australia is home to such an incredible and one-of-a-kind ecosystem and being able to share it with students from every corner of the globe is truly an honour.
