On Monday one of our teachers Kathleen has shown students how to do creative basket weaving with Palm Fronts.
The fallen leaves from the Bangalow palm tree are the best to use to create amazing cute little baskets. We collected a few Bangalow Palm Fronts and soaked them overnight in water. This will soften the material as it needs to be able to bend and fold into baskets.
Kathleen explained how to fold the palm fronts and students could practise on a piece of paper first.
Once the palm front was folded into a basket, students use twine and strings to stich it together.
Students loved this activity and the results are stunning!
