Noosa – Mouth-Watering National Banana Split Day – 25th August

Indulging in Delight: Lexis Students Celebrate National Banana Split Day!

At Lexis Noosa, the air was filled with excitement and a hint of anticipation as students came together to celebrate a unique and delicious occasion – National Banana Split Day! This annual event, dedicated to the beloved dessert, gave our students the perfect opportunity to showcase their creativity and culinary skills while savoring a classic treat.

Surprisingly, the original banana split wasn’t created in an ice cream parlor but in a pharmacy in 1904.  Banana splits were the brainchild of David Evans Strickler, a pharmacist’s apprentice who enjoyed experimenting with new soda fountain sundaes in his free time. They were so popular with the college crowd that students willingly paid 10 cents, double the price of a normal sundae. Try a banana split today and you’ll understand why this amazing dessert is a classic!

banana split is an American ice cream-based dessert consisting of a peeled banana cut in half lengthwise and served with ice cream and sauce between the two pieces. There are many variations, but the classic banana split is made with three scoops of ice cream (one each of vanillachocolate, and strawberry). A sauce or sauces (chocolate, strawberry, and pineapple are traditional) are drizzled onto the ice cream, which is topped with whipped cream and maraschino cherries. Crushed nuts (generally peanuts or walnuts) are also optional.

The atmosphere was vibrant and lively as students gathered to participate in the banana-split-making extravaganza. Amongst laughter, chatter, and the sweet aroma of ripe bananas, students embraced the chance to customize their own banana splits. The main table had an array of toppings, from chocolate sauce to ice cream, colorful sprinkles, crunchy nuts, whipped cream, and plump, juicy cherries. The possibilities were endless as each student crafted a dessert masterpiece that reflected their unique taste.

Following the students’ enjoyment of their distinct Banana Splits, we concluded the afternoon with an engaging and interactive game. Within a 10-minute timeframe, every team was tasked with generating as many responses as possible related to their assigned categories. The team that produced the highest number of answers was rewarded with a small prize to enjoy together – a bag of banana lollies!
