Tell us a little about yourself Fanja:
I’m Fanja, I’m 26 years old and I’m from Switzerland. Before I came here I worked for a bank in Ticino (same job that I’m going to do when I go back). I decided to do this experience to improve my English, for myself, and also because I love to travel around the world. I am staying here for 3 months.
Why did you choose Byron Bay?
I chose Byron Bay so that I could go to the beach after school, and to be able to spend time outside in my free time.
What were your weaknesses in English before you came to Australia? Tell me more about your teachers and your classes.
I think that I could speak okay, it wasn’t as hard as writing. This sometimes can be difficult.
I really love my teacher Mel. She is very good and really helps improve my English.
What was your favourite activity?
Painting the stone mandala! Even though some of the paint came off in the rain when I was riding my bike home. I was able to get another one, and now it is in my room. I don’t always get to go to all of the activities because I am travelling a lot like to Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise (and soon on the weekends Sydney and Melbourne). But there are some good things. I also like yoga on a Monday morning! That is a nice way to start the week.
Tell me about your accommodation/ homestay…
I am in a homestay, and Heather is a really good woman. I am really lucky to stay with her. She helps us with anything. It’s also only a five minute walk to the beach, so that is nice.
What are your favourite things to do in Byron?
I like going to the beach. I like going to Main Beach in the afternoons during the week. There are always lots of people there and music going on. I go to Suffolk Beach on the weekends because it is a bit more private. I also like to go to the lighthouse. I would like to go there with my boyfriend for the sunrise or sunset (when it’s not raining).
What is your most magical moment in Byron?
Just being with friends at the beach. It’s a simple thing, but it’s good with good people.
What did you like most about Lexis Byron?
You can get to know a lot of different people from a lot of different places. You can learn things from their culture, and now I’ve got an idea of different places like Chille and Brazil!
What is your advice for people who are thinking about enrolling at Lexis Byron Bay?
Just be yourself. You can wear anything for example and you won’t be judged. Also in sunny season remember your SPF 50+ sunscreen!
