It might seem a little intimidating on your first day at Lexis English.

All of the new students arriving and not knowing where to go…rumours that there are tests and interviews just to see what level you are to be placed in. And to be honest, it is all true! Here’s a quick run-down on what you’ll experience on your first day at our Manly Beach school.

First, you’ll be greeted by our wonderful staff. We need to put a face to the name to ensure that every day we see you, we know who you are and how you are feeling.

Then, you’ll be shown around the school and introduced to the other new students who are also in your shoes. This is a great opportunity to sit and get to know your fellow classmates, make some new friends, and even practice a bit of the language you are committing to learning for the duration of your course.

At 9 am, someone will come and greet you and you’ll begin your test. There are two tests, one that focuses on grammar and vocabulary, while the other looks at your writing skills. You will have one hour to complete the combined test before submitting it for review.

After the hard work is done, you’ll be greeted by a staff member who will welcome and orientate you on the school, the city and life in Australia. This is a fantastic opportunity to ask any questions you may have before starting your student life and the staff are more than prepared to answer.

Following your first interaction with a class, you will be asked to sit down and complete an interview individually which lasts no longer than 5 – 10 minutes. This is for the staff to get a clearer idea of your level and to get to know you a little better. Just so there are no surprises along the way.

After your interview, you’ll have a lunch break with the rest of the school and join your fellow classmates for your first class at 1 pm.

At 2 pm, you can join a walk and talk around the city so that you can become familiar with the surroundings and ask any burning questions that you might have that are not necessarily linked to Lexis.

From there, you can spend the rest of the afternoon with your new classmates, or go exploring, because tomorrow your English learning journey has only just begun.
