Carlos, Federico and Riku – from Brazil, Italy and Japan – met at Lexis Sydney Manly and formed a strong friendship during their time with us. Through shared classes, activities, and unforgettable experiences, they quickly became close and decided to explore more of Australia together. Recently, they travelled to Uluṟu, one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks and a place of deep cultural significance for the Indigenous people of Australia.

We were lucky enough to recently interview them about their trip, where they shared highlights, memories, and what made the experience so special. Their journey is a beautiful example of how studying abroad brings people together from different corners of the world and creates friendships that last a lifetime.

Introduction:

Carlos, Federico and Riku all met during their time at our Sydney–Manly campus and quickly formed a close friendship through shared classes, activities, and everyday moments. Coming from three different countries, they each brought their own culture, personality, and experiences to the group, creating a strong and supportive bond. We asked them to introduce themselves, share a little about their background, and tell us how long they have been studying at Lexis – giving us a glimpse into their unique journeys and what brought them together:

Carlos: “Hi, my name is Carlos and I am from Brazil. I have been studying at Lexis since the middle of November and I am having so much fun learning and exploring Sydney.”

Federico: “I’m Federico, and I am from Italy with Chinese origin. I have been studying at Lexis for 3 months. I started at the end of October.”

Riku: “My name is Riku, I am 21 years old and I am from Japan, and I have also been studying at Lexis for 3 months. I started on the same day as Carlos – in November.”Whatsapp Image 2026 02 06 At 3.16.27 Pm 1 E1770355418382How did you meet at Lexis?

When asked how they first met at Lexis, all three shared how their friendship grew naturally through being in the same class and supporting each other throughout their study abroad journey. From arriving on the same day to sharing lessons, challenges, and memorable moments, their connection quickly became something special. Their stories show how small beginnings in the classroom can turn into lifelong friendships.

Carlos: “Riku and I arrived on the same day at Lexis, and we then also joined the same class with the same English level, so we quickly became close friends. Federico was already in the same class – which was amazing!”

Federico: “We all met in the same class and then when I changed class, we had already a strong friendship so we maintained the relationship.”

Riku:We were first classmates who went through really good and funny times together. For me, they really supported me during my study abroad experience and I am thankful I got to meet them in our class.”

Why did you decide to travel to Uluru together?

When asked why they decided to travel to Uluru together, the boys shared that it had always been a dream destination for all three of them. With Riku graduating this week, they felt it was the perfect time to plan something meaningful and unforgettable. Wanting to celebrate their friendship and mark this special milestone, they organised a weekend trip as a farewell – creating lasting memories and giving Riku a truly fantastic send-off before he returns home to Japan.

What made this trip special for you as a group?

When asked what made their Uluru trip so special as a group, the boys reflected on how the experience brought them even closer together. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and away from their everyday routines, they were able to fully immerse themselves in the moment, strengthen their friendship, and create memories that will last a lifetime. From feeling deeply connected to nature to celebrating their bond and marking Riku’s farewell, each of them took something unique and meaningful from the journey.

Carlos: “This trip was so special because we felt so connected to nature, and it was an amazing experience to see Uluru in real life – it was beautiful!”

Federico: “The trip was so special for me because I could bond better with my friends and get to know them better. Thanks to the school and them, I have met friends for life!”

Riku: “I now have the best memories from this trip and it was the perfect farewell – from sleeping under the stars to seeing the Australian desert and of course, seeing Uluru!”

What was your favourite moment of the trip?

When asked about their favourite moment of the trip, the boys agreed that it wasn’t just one highlight, but a collection of special experiences they shared together. Exploring the incredible landscapes of Uluru, hiking through the surrounding nature reserve, and simply spending time with each other made every part of the journey meaningful. Being able to experience such a unique part of Australia as a group made it even more memorable.

They were also incredibly lucky to witness a rare waterfull during their visit. After rain fell in the desert the night before they arrived, an amazing waterfall appeared – something that happens very rarely in this environment. Combined with camping and sleeping under the stars, this unexpected surprise made their trip even more magical and unforgettable.

Would you recommend this trip to other Lexis students?

When asked if they would recommend this trip to other Lexis students, all three answered with a big yes. They agreed that visiting Uluru is a must-do experience for anyone studying or travelling in Australia, offering the chance to connect with nature, culture, and new people along the way. Whether going with close friends or joining a tour, they believe it’s an unforgettable journey that everyone should experience at least once.

Carlos: “I definitely recommend this trip to my Lexis friends, because I think everyone needs to try this experience in Australia. Choose your best friends or go on a tour and go for it!”

Federico: “I would recommend this trip to anyone, not only to Lexis students, but also to all the people in Australia who have never been there or to anyone travelling Australia. It is a trip that could let you connect with nature and Aboriginal culture.”

Riku: “Of course! You should definitely go. If you join a tour, you can make new friends or you can go with friends from Lexis. It was a really fun, awesome and informative experience for me.”
