Stand Up Paddling on The Noosa River
On Friday, a group of students decided to swap their textbooks for Stand Up Paddle Boards and take on the beautiful Noosa River. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze in the air, it was the perfect day for an adventure on the water.
Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a popular water sport that involves standing on a large, stable board and using a paddle to move through the water. It combines elements of surfing and kayaking, offering a fun and versatile way to enjoy various bodies of water, from oceans and lakes to rivers and bays.

After a quick safety briefing and some basic paddle techniques, we were ready to launch. Some of us had tried stand up paddling before, but for most, this was a first.
Our first few moments on the boards were filled with wobbles and laughs. Balancing on the board while trying to paddle smoothly proved trickier than it looked. But after a few splashes, we started getting the hang of it. There’s something incredibly satisfying about finding your balance and gliding across the water.

As we paddled along, we were treated to the sights and sounds of the river’s diverse ecosystem. Birds swooped low over the water, fish darted beneath our boards, and the lush greenery along the banks made for a stunning backdrop. It was like being in nature’s classroom, learning about the local wildlife and appreciating the beauty of our surroundings.
Stand up paddling turned out to be a great team activity. We cheered each other on, helped out when someone took an unexpected dip, and shared tips on how to paddle more efficiently. The sense of community was fantastic.

The paddle back was equally enjoyable. With our confidence boosted, we navigated the river with ease, feeling like pros. As we neared our starting point, the afternoon sun cast a golden glow over the water, making our return even more picturesque.
By the time we returned our boards and packed up, we were all buzzing with excitement. Stand up paddling on the Noosa River had turned out to be an amazing way to spend the afternoon. It was a perfect blend of fun, exercise, and nature exploration. We left with happy hearts and plans to do it all over again soon.
