A Week of Fun Activities: Exploring, Creating, and Relaxing
As the week unfolded, we had a perfect balance of exploration, creativity, and relaxation. From diving into history at the RSL museum to expressing our artistic sides with cookie decorating and finally unwinding with a peaceful beach picnic, it was a week that left us feeling connected to both the past and the present. Here’s a glimpse of what our week looked like:
Wednesday: A Journey Through History at the RSL Museum
Our mid-week adventure took us to the RSL (Returned and Services League) Museum, a treasure trove of history and stories that transport you back to different eras. The museum, located in the heart of the Maroochydore, was full of artifacts, photographs, and stories that brought to life the sacrifices and experiences of our service men and women.
We began with a guided tour, where our knowledgeable guide walked the students through exhibits showcasing the experiences of soldiers from different wars, including both world wars. Each display was thoughtfully curated, allowing visitors to connect emotionally with the past. From vintage military uniforms and medals to letters and war-time relics, the museum offered a firsthand look at the incredible resilience and bravery that defined these historical moments.
What stood out was the personal touch of the museum, as it often highlighted the lives of local heroes. It was a reminder of how history is not just a series of events but the stories of real people who made extraordinary sacrifices.
Thursday: Sweet Creativity with Cookie Decorating
As the week continued, the mood shifted from reflective to creative. We had a cookie decorating session on Thursday afternoon that proved to be as fun as it was delicious! The students gathered around a large table filled with cookies, an array of colorful icing, sprinkles, and other fun toppings, ready to transform these plain treats into edible masterpieces.
It was a relaxed, no-pressure environment, perfect for letting the creativity flow. We started with basic designs, but as the session went on, the cookies turned into tiny works of art. Some of us went for intricate patterns, while others made adorable faces or abstract designs. It didn’t matter what we created, as the goal was to have fun and enjoy the process.
As we worked, we chatted, laughed, and swapped decorating tips. There’s something about creating with your hands that brings out a sense of joy, and it was clear everyone was getting into the spirit. The best part? We all got to take home our decorated cookies, which turned out to be a sweet reminder of the fun we had.
Friday: A Perfect Beach Picnic
To round out the week, we headed to Cotton Tree Beach on Friday for a relaxing picnic. We packed our picnic baskets with fruit, cheese, biscuits, and drinks and off we went.
Once we arrived, we found a cozy spot near the sand, just a short walk from the water, and set up our picnic. There’s something magical about being by the ocean—the sound of the waves crashing, the smell of salty air, and the calming rhythm of the tides. It’s the perfect setting for unwinding after a busy week.
We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun, eating, and enjoying each other’s company. Some people made use of the football and had a game, other spent the time chatting and getting to know new people, and some even had a go on the playground nearby!
It was the perfect way to end a week full of activities—peaceful, refreshing, and full of good memories.
