Beach Volleyball with Sunny Skies & ANZAC Poppy Making
The Lexis English Campus on the Sunshine Coast boasts year-round blue skies, ocean views and the sunshine that is promised in the name. Come enjoy the costal laid-back lifestyle while learning, practicing and improving your English. Our activities are designed to be examples of real-life situations to use their English in a safe, relaxed and supportive environment. These activities give students the opportunities to make friends with students from around the globe while also enjoying new experiences!
In this recap, follow along as we make our mark on Cotton Tree beach playing a great game of Volleyball. Some say it was more like a photo shoot considering the photos we took. Then on Friday we sat down and made some red paper Poppie flowers for ANZAC day. While eating some ANZAC bikkies – of course!
Beach Volleyball with a side of Blue Skies
Sometimes in class at Sunshine Coast, you do look out the window and see these ridiculously blue skies. And you think to yourself- gosh I would love to be out there in this weather. Hence, student activities!
We all agreed blue skies + golden beach = beach volleyball for the win.
We set out with our volleyball equipment and a group of 10 students to participate in a thrilling game! Is how I would love to sell it to you, but we were lucky to have 3 students who actually knew how to hit the ball and the rest of us were eagerly diving at lost balls with a face full of sand. But it was fun~ and our students who actually knew how to play gave some great tips.
ANZAC Poppy Making
With ANZAC day around the corner, we planned an afternoon of crafts to commemorate. We sat down and enjoyed some tea and coffee with ANZAC biscuits. ANZAC bikkies (biscuits in Aussie slang) were created during World War 1 from a basic blend of oats, flour and syrup that were long lasting without spoiling. A classic Aussie treat that has flowed down in history as something to eat on ANZAC day.
Using an array of red, green and black paper with some splashes of glitter we created a variety of poppies in size, shape and creativity. Our student services officer had already created a green paper wreath earlier in the day, to attach all our beautiful poppies to.
We completed our afternoon craft session with some general information about Dawn Services that would be happening over the weekend and if anyone wished to join. This event is held around the country, where people meet before sunrise to honour and remember the soldiers who served for Australia and New Zealand in the past wars. It serves to honour the courage, endurance and sacrifice of the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps).
Our afternoon was filled with idle chatter as we crafted our poppies. We enjoyed chatting in English ranging from topics about weekend plans to which country had the better school uniforms. It’s lovely to meet likeminded people who are trying their best to get better at English and bring such a positive energy to our Sunshine Coast campus.
