Sunshine Coast – Christmas Concert
Our Christmas concert saw a wide array of different performances. From singing and dancing, playing musical instruments, acting out comedic skits, taking Kahoot quizes, and setting up our own nativity scene, there was something for everyone! The concert started with our elementary class who serenaded us with the wonderful melody of Jingle Bell Rock. This performance became a chorus of voices as the whole school sang along. There was even a few giggles interspersed in response to the dance moves from our resident performer Yoshimune.

Next up was a concert performance of Feliz Navidad by our wonderful pre-intermediate class. This performance had everything! Starting with a beautiful recorder/guitar duet which was quickly joined by some percussion and fantastic singing, before the performance finished out with a choreographed dance number. Everyone was over-joyed to see the pre-intermediate class shine as they danced and sung their hearts out. Even though the Grinch had managed to find his way on to stage, the whole group had a blast, and the performance finished with a raucous round of applause.

Next up was our intermediate B class, with a fun and fantastic Kahoot quiz! When the quiz first came up on the board everyone rushed to register so that they could have a shot at winning the fantastic prizes on offer. Students waited in entranced anticipation to see what the quiz would be about and if they had a chance at coming in first. It wasn’t long before excitement filled the air and the quiz got underway. We started with questions about our dedicated teachers. Things like “where is Marie from?”, “who lived in Brazil?” and “how many teachers are there in the school?”. Upon the completion of this section we had a tight competition, with the points coming down to who could tap their answer the fastest. Next, we moved on to questions about Lexis English. Can you guess how many Lexis schools there are around the world? After that we moved through topics such as ‘alcohol’ and ‘Australian animals’ before ultimately the quiz came to an end and a winner was crowned. Cheers erupted as Rino jumped up to claim her prize and everyone commiserated with those that unfortunately came in at the other end of the scale.

After that was our Upper Intermediate class with a comedic skit about a ‘completely normal psychiatrists office’. Everyone was in stitches as we listened to the class act out some wacky and wonderful problems, from things like only being able to shout while working in a library, to being Superwoman and no longer being able to fly! Eventually the performance came to an end, everyone’s eyes filled with tears of laughter.

Next was our advanced class with a rendition of ‘Santa Baby’. This performance had a theatrical component as the class sang and acted out the lyrics to the song. Tiago, our Santa for the performance had a wonderful bag of goodies from which he pulled no shortage of wacky and wonderful presents. Overall, this performance left the students gleeful with Christmas joy (and the hope of getting equally good presents for themselves on Christmas Day).

Finally, our intermediate A, IELTS, and Cambridge Focus classes came together to recreate the nativity play – with their own twist. This play had people in stiches as the centuries old tale was given a slightly more modern and eccentric twist. Some of our wonderful students got to be Joseph or the angel, while others were good sports and put their hands up to play the farm animals – and boy did they do a good job! This fantastic play was finished off with a beautiful rendition of ‘Away in a Manger’.

Overall, the Christmas Concert added a touch of laughter and joy to the lives of all of our students. Each going away from today with a special memory in their hearts, whether it be Yoshi’s dance moves or Rino’s win. I know I will look back on the concert fondly for a long while to come.
From students and teachers alike – Merry Christmas!!
