Sunshine Coast – Weekly Activities: Painting Mandalas & Mixing ‘Masterful’ Cocktails – 10 April 2026

Lexis English Sunshine Coast Activities in Review –

Colourful Mandalas with Fruity Cocktails

The Lexis English Campus on the Sunshine Coast boasts year-round blue skies, ocean views and the sunshine that is promised in the name. Come enjoy the costal laid-back lifestyle while learning, practicing and improving your English. Our activities are designed to be examples of real-life situations to use their English in a safe, relaxed and supportive environment. These activities give students the opportunities to make friends with students from around the globe while also enjoying new experiences!

In this recap, we discuss how students delved into the many reasons they came to study at Lexis English in Australia, while relaxing the body and mind with some Mandala painting. On the other side of relaxing, our students learnt to read recipes and practice their ‘shake not stirred’ James Bond voice with a cocktail afternoon. Both activities are to promote healthy interaction in English and to just have some fun!

A Relaxing Afternoon of Mandala Painting

Mandala painting was up first this week for our students, and it was time to face the truth. Though we aimed to sit, paint and relax. It quickly became apparent that some serious sorting was needed.

Mandala Painting With Manyyy Tubes Of Paint.
Our various options in paint.

Tubes of various colours was strewn across the tables and the students were kind enough to help check each and every paint tube. We had the full option of a rainbow in colours plus some particularly enjoyable glitter pens. As we sat around and painted with a lovely view of the sky and ocean in front of us- we did fall into some lighthearted chatter.

Not to give away all our secrets but it was enlightening to hear some of the reasons Lexis English Students come to Australia.

We had someone who is simply a big fan of animals! Kangaroos, Koalas and Wombats are on the bucket list for her Aussie trip. Another student plans to learn how to surf and to live out the dream of being a classic Aussie surfer. This was met with great excitement and some eager looks out the window at our own view of the waves.

Another student told us about the story of how her parents met and fell in love in Australia! This happened many years ago of course, and so they were very supportive when she decided to come study here before her job search begun. Of course, we asked if she was also on a looking for love campaign- no clear answer yet (will keep you updated).

A different student explained how finding a job was taking too long in her country. So, instead of sitting around stressed and waiting, a friend convinced her to come level up her English in Australia. She has had such a great time she is now in the process of extending her stay in Australia! She expressed how life is funny, and you never know where you’ll end up.

Another student agreed with this describing how she actually came to Australia to experience a change as she wasn’t enjoying her work at home anymore. She further explained she was trying to better herself with new experiences and was excited to see how she will change in the next few months.

So overall, it was a pleasant afternoon of painting and chatting. A great way to relax and practice English speaking in a comfortable setting on campus. Though we all agree the study and tests are important. It’s taking the time to chat and connect through English Conversation that will further everyone’s understanding and enjoyment of the language. Being able to communicate is our aim and having fun is the method! – Said someone very smart surely.

Fruity ‘Masterful’ Cocktails: Learning, Smiles and Taste Testing!

Then came Friday Cocktail making! At Lexis English Sunshine Coast we believe the steps forward in improving your English comes in practical use. The activity of cocktail making lets students practice real life experiences in a safe and fun setting. We don’t need perfection- we just want to see you try.

We decided on some fruity, colourful, (lots of shaking) cocktails to end the week. Our options were a Cosmo Bellini, Passionfruit Caipiroska or an Amalfitano. Peaches, passionfruit and lemons were the stars of the day.

Our students had to read the recipes in English and make their best version of these cocktails. Alot of the students had never made cocktails before or were unsure of how to follow the method exactly. So, they asked! Arguably the best way to improve at anything. Working in pairs they had to squeeze lemons, muddle peaches, garnish with orange peels and shake!

Students learnt new words and cocktail terms such as strainer, three different types of cocktail shakers (Boston, French and Cobbler if you were wondering), and how important a lid is… all splashes and spills were cleaned up of course.

It was a great afternoon of new experiences, lots of laughs, and some honest taste testing. Some students displayed great skill! Fruity, sweet and only sometimes unintentionally sour. We are all excited to see what next week will bring in our English learning journey!
