A Taste of Australia: A Delicious Week at Lexis Sunshine Coast

This past week at Lexis English Sunshine Coast was one to remember! Our students enjoyed a mid-week break from study sessions with three delicious and uniquely Australian activities that brought everyone together for fun, laughter, and food. Here’s a quick recap of the tasty adventures we had:

Taste Of Australia

Wednesday: Aussie Food Tasting

We kicked things off on Wednesday afternoon with an Aussie food tasting session that brought students together for a fun and flavorful cultural experience. The activity was set up in the student lounge, where tables were lined with classic Australian snacks ready to be sampled.

Students had the chance to try a range of iconic Aussie treats – from the salty surprise of Vegemite on toast to the sweet crunch of Tim Tams, soft Lamingtons, and even Violet Crumbles and Anzac biscuits. Laughter filled the room as everyone took their first cautious bites of Vegemite. Some loved it instantly, while others weren’t quite convinced – but that’s all part of the fun!

Many students shared stories from their own countries about similar foods, sparking lively conversations and lots of laughter.

By the end of the afternoon, plates were empty, and everyone had gotten a taste of Australian culture – and each other. It was the perfect icebreaker to start our week of social events, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the days ahead.

Thursday: Pancake Party

Pancakes Scaled

Thursday afternoon was all about sweet indulgence and that breakfast taste as we hosted our much-anticipated Pancake Party! The aroma of freshly cooked pancakes quickly filled the student lounge, drawing in hungry students from every corner of the campus. Tables were loaded with an irresistible spread of toppings – maple syrup, chocolate sauce, cinnamon sugar, fresh berries, Nutella, sprinkles, honey, and even Vegemite – making it impossible not to go back for seconds (or thirds!).

Students were encouraged to build their own pancake creations, and it quickly became a friendly competition to see who could make the most mouthwatering or Instagram-worthy stack. There were tall towers of pancakes, smiley-face designs, and a few artistic masterpieces that were almost too pretty to eat.

The vibe was warm and welcoming, with soft music in the background and lots of laughter echoing through the room. Some students tried pancakes for the first time, while others shared how this simple dish is enjoyed in their home countries. It was a lovely way to learn about each other’s cultures while enjoying a universally loved treat.

By the end of the afternoon, everyone left with full bellies and happy hearts. The Pancake Party wasn’t just about food – it was about connection, creativity, and celebrating the little joys that bring us together.

Friday: Sausage Sizzle

We wrapped up the week with a classic Aussie sausage sizzle on Friday afternoon – a much-loved tradition that never fails to bring people together. Held outdoors in the sunny Cotton Tree Park, the BBQ was already sizzling by the time students began arriving, drawn in by the mouthwatering aroma of sausages cooking on the grill.

The setup was simple but perfect: juicy sausages in fresh white bread, topped with grilled onions and a choice of classic sauces to taste – tomato, BBQ, and mustard. For those with dietary needs, vegetarian options were also available, ensuring everyone could join in on the fun. A few students even went back for seconds, and no one left hungry!

The atmosphere was relaxed and social, with plenty of seating under the sun and some students grabbing a soccer ball to add a taste of sport to the mix. Conversations flowed easily, with students chatting in different languages, sharing laughs, and enjoying the chance to unwind after a busy week of classes. Teachers and staff joined in too, making it a real community event.

The sausage sizzle was more than just a meal – it was a chance to celebrate the friendships forming here at Lexis and the diversity of our student body. As the afternoon sun began to set, it was clear that this simple Aussie BBQ had brought a perfect end to a week full of connection, culture, and good vibes.
