Noosa – Last Week at Lexis – 6th March

Last week was an Action Packed Week of Fun Activities at Lexis Noosa!

Dscf7110For our students, it’s important to unwind during a week of English learning and our activity programme is the best way to do so. Every week, we do activities together on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to showcase the best of what life in Noosa is like. Our activities range from arts and crafts to watersports and from karaoke to yoga, with a whole load of Aussie culture thrown in there too. Here’s a glimpse of what activities we got up to last week:

Wednesday’s Activity – Volleyball at KB’s Noosa!

On Wednesday, we made the short trip to KB’s Noosa, popular amongst backpackers and locals for their Tuesday bingo night and their great location between Noosa Junction and Hastings Street. They graciously lent us their sand volleyball court and after class on Wednesday we went round for a few games and a few beers. For some of our students, volleyball has played a huge role in their life, growing up playing the sport. For others, it can be a brand new experience and one that they will remember forever. Either way, it’s a great way to catch a bit of sun, get your body moving and to make new friends from school.

Thursday’s Activity – Yoga Flow with Emily

On Thursday we stayed at our Noosa campus and Emily from our Elementary class lead a yoga session for some of our students. Life can be incredibly busy and it’s important to take the time to step back, relax and breathe and a yoga flow is the perfect way to do just that. Tactically set up beneath the aircon, Emily took the students through a 45 minute session to unlock those tight muscles and get the blood flowing. It was a great way to clear our mind and relax and allow all that learning from the week so far to consolidate. It was also handy to flush out those sore muscles after the intense volleyball session the day before!

Friday’s Activity – International Picnic

Our Noosa campus is lucky to have such a diverse group of students who come to Australia from far and wide, and to show some appreciation, on Friday after class we hosted an international picnic. The aim was to get students to bring famous or traditional dishes from their home country for everybody to try. It could be sweet or savoury, big or small but it was a chance for everyone to get a taste of home and to try each other’s national dishes. We had crepes from France, sushi from Japan, mango sticky rice from Thailand and sweet treats from Brazil. Of course there were Aussie treats too like pies and sausage rolls. It was a great way to bring in the weekend and brilliant to see the effort some students went to!
We then finished off the week with some happy hour drinks at The Culinary Academy.
