Noosa – Exciting BBQ Pontoon Cruise – 31st May

Pontoon Boat, BBQ and beers – Name a better trio!

For Wednesday afternoon’s activity, student services team member, Skyla, took 20 students on a pontoon boat along the Noosa River. There’s no better way to finish a day of study and celebrate the middle of the week than with the 3 B’s – Boat, BBQ and Beers!

Although the weather has been a little chilly lately, the days have been perfect. We’ve been blessed with blue skies, sunshine, absolutely no wind and crystal-clear waters. Therefore, we thought we better make the most of these beautiful days and enjoy what Noosa has to offer. A boat cruise along the Noosa River offers an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the area up close. The river is lined with lush greenery and mangroves, and there are many sandy beaches and secluded coves to explore along the way.

Hiring a pontoon boat is perfect for accommodating large groups of people for social events, parties, celebrations, or even for a memorable day out with family and friends. There are many companies to hire these boats from in Noosa that range in size from 6 people to 21 people. We had a group of 21, therefore we hired from Pelican Boat Hire which has the biggest and most equipped hire pontoon on all of Noosa River.

It features 21 seats, a gas BBQ, Bluetooth stereo, an onboard toilet, fishing gear, and a 40-hp motor.

We hired the pontoon boat for 2 hours which gave us enough time to explore the southern end of the river, as well as stopping on a sand bank for a swim. The southern end of the river towards Noosa Heads, is action-packed on the water with jet-ski’s, SUP’s, kayaks, fishing boats, hire boats, and the local ferries. It’s got crystal clear waters which are perfect to swim in and isolated islands to explore.

Onboard we packed BBQ food, an esky that was full of cold beers on ice and had some great tunes playing through the speakers. The 3 perfect things for a fun afternoon on the water!

As we were cruising through the Noosa canals and out of the wind, we fired up the barbie and cooked an awesome sausage sizzle for everyone to enjoy. Our sausage sizzle consisted of sausages and grilled onion on bread with tomato, BBQ and mustard sauce on top.

We decided to pull up at the Noosa Sound bridge and some students tested their bravery skills by jumping off the bridge into the water. The bridge is approximately 5 metres high and is 100% safe to jump off into the water. We all had so much fun jumping as this brought out our inner child and took us back to childhood memories. A few students braved the colder waters and went swimming off the sand, whilst other students stayed on the boat enjoying the sunshine.

It was an unforgettable afternoon on the Noosa River that we will definitely be doing again! Our students had such a great time and hope this experience will be something they’ll remember for a lifetime!
