Lexis Brisbane – Roma Street Parklands Picnic – 02.02.2024

Let me share with you the fantastic day we had at Roma Street Parklands with the Lexis Brisbane community. It was a whole school picnic, and let me tell you, it was a feast for the ages.

We had shared food and snacks of all sorts – from savory to sweet, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was a delightful spread that truly showcased the diverse tastes and flavours within our group.

But the picnic wasn’t just about the food – although that was a big highlight. We also enjoyed playing soccer, volleyball, listening to music, and simply relaxing in the beautiful greenery of the park.  Our backdrop was the spectacular water fountain and lake, which made for a serene atmosphere as we let the week of rigorous study fade, and we embraced the weekend ahead

Looking out over the water, we laughed, shared our highlights from the week, talked about our plans and goals for the future, and got to know each other better.  It was a memorable way to finish out the week!

For some students, it was their graduation day, and this special occasion was a great way to celebrate all they had achieved on their journey with Lexis Brisbane.

Roma Street Parklands truly is a gem in the heart of Brisbane, providing us with a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.  Did you know that Roma Street Parklands is not just any ordinary park? It’s actually one of the world’s largest subtropical garden retreats right in the heart of a city. Pretty impressive, right? The parklands cover a whopping 16 hectares and feature lush gardens, water features, walking tracks, and even a mini rainforest.

During the weekdays, Roma Street Parklands is a popular spot for office workers looking to escape the office and enjoy a bit of nature during their lunch breaks. You’ll see people strolling through the gardens, having picnics, or simply relaxing on the grass. But on the weekends, the park really comes alive. There are often events and activities happening, from live music performances to food festivals to outdoor yoga sessions. It’s the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends and family.

And speaking of events, there are actually some really cool ones coming up soon that I think you’ll all enjoy. The Sound Society puts on free concerts in the park every month from February to June 2024.  These concerts feature all kinds of music from soul to jazz to funk and more.  There is something for everyone.  Bring along your picnic basket and blanket, and sprawl out on the grass, as you listen to the musical delights.  It’s a great way to relax, unwind, spend time with your friends and family, and support local artists while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of the parklands.

Brisbane is an incredible city for international students like our Lexis gang. There’s so much to do and explore, from the vibrant arts scene to the wide array of restaurants, cafes, and cultural events. Being part of Lexis Brisbane means we get to fully immerse ourselves in everything the city has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom.

Here’s a fun fact: did you know that Brisbane is home to over 200 different nationalities? It’s a testament to the city’s diversity and inclusivity, and events like our picnic allow us to celebrate and learn from each other’s cultures.

We loved creating this picnic feast for our students.  As our gathering came to an end, we headed home with full stomachs and happy hearts. It was another memorable day spent with friends and classmates, and we’re already looking forward to the next adventure. Cheers to good food, great company, and unforgettable experiences!
