We Brought Oktoberfest to Us!
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest and most famous beer festival, held annually in Munich, Germany. It typically runs from late September to the first weekend in October, lasting for about 16-18 days.
This celebration of Bavarian culture and, of course, beer, has become an internationally recognized event. Many other cities and countries around the world have also embraced the Oktoberfest tradition, hosting their own Oktoberfest-style events, with similar elements of beer, food, music, and cultural celebration – including Brisbane!
Oktoberfest in Brisbane, features many of the same international festival activities, including the enjoyment of traditional German food and drink. In the spirit of Oktoberfest, we decided to host our own version on campus, snacking on some delicious pretzels and enjoying a variety of different kinds of German beer!
The highlight of our very-own Oktoberfest was undoubtedly the German beer tasting. Everyone had the chance to savor a selection of authentic German beers, immersing themselves in the rich and robust flavors that are synonymous with Oktoberfest. From crisp and refreshing lagers to the slightly malty and amber Märzen beers, each sip provided a delightful journey through the world of Bavarian brewing.
We had a chance to taste a variety of brews, each with its own personality, from the light and refreshing pilsners to the dark and robust bocks. The flavors ranged from malty to hoppy, each one a delight for our taste buds. The beer tasting allowed everyone to appreciate the craftsmanship behind these beverages and offered a unique cultural experience right on campus. It was the perfect way to end a busy week!
This mini Oktoberfest allowed our students to escape briefly from their daily routines and experience a taste of German culture in a delightful and accessible way. It was not only an opportunity to explore different flavors but also to appreciate other cultures. It brought together the joy of beer tasting, the delight of pretzels, and the vibrant spirit of the festival with our wonderful Lexis family coming together to celebrate.
