Sipping Success!
Last week, we set up a cocktail mixologist workshop in our student lounge and gave everybody the opportunity to make some delicious espresso martinis to celebrate the end of a wonderful week!
For those who don’t know, the Espresso Martini is a popular and stylish cocktail that combines the rich and robust flavours of espresso with the smooth and slightly bitter notes of coffee liqueur. The drink brings together the boldness of coffee and the sophistication of the classic martini. Today, the Espresso Martini is a staple in cocktail menus globally, enjoyed by those who appreciate the marriage of caffeine and spirits. Whether sipped as a nightcap or ordered as a pick-me-up during a night out, this contemporary classic continues to captivate cocktail enthusiasts.
The recipe was written on the whiteboard for all of our students to follow, and everyone got into smaller groups to work through the steps and make their delicious cocktails.
Ingredients:
- 30mL of vodka
- 30mL of coffee liqueur (Kahlua)
- 30mL of freshly brewed espresso
- 15mL of sugar syrup
Instructions:
- In a shaker, combine vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso and sugar syrup
- Add two ice cubes and shake well until frothy
- Serve and enjoy!
Armed with a shared love for coffee and a zest for trying new things, our students transformed the student lounge into a makeshift bar for a memorable afternoon. What better way to unwind after a day of classes than with a beverage that marries the boldness of coffee with the elegance of a martini glass?
The process began with a flurry of activity—espresso machines humming, shakers clinking, and lots of laughing. Everyone took turns measuring and pouring, adjusting the ratios to suit their individual tastes. It was so satisfying for everyone to try their concoctions at the end and to taste the similarity between these DIY espresso martinis and ones made by a bartender.
