Lexis Brisbane – Beautiful Brisbane Photo Contest – 08 December 2022

Last month at Lexis Brisbane, we held a photo contest. The only criteria of the contest was that the photo had to be taken in Brisbane, otherwise our students had complete creative control. To keep the contest fair, our wonderful Registrations team took the opportunity to be art critics for a day and choose the winners.

The competition was certainly a tough one, with dozens of entries submitted by our very talented students. While all of the submissions are deserving of a place in our showcase, there were some that stood out from the rest. Here are some of the outstanding photos we received, with a short caption in the students’ own words explaining why they felt their photo was representative of their time in Brisbane.

Dani

Brisbane Photo Contest - Dani And Juan Laughing Together.

“I’m Dani and I would like to share with you my favorite photo of Brisbane. It was take really close to the old Windmill while we were in our Brittany’s Advance class. Not only because of the photo itself but for the beautiful meaning that has to us: meeting unexpectedly, in a foreign country, a really friend for life.”

Dani and Juan were two of the first students to join our Lexis family after our re-opening earlier this year. We feel that this photo perfectly captures the friendships that our students establish when they come to study at Lexis, as well as the variety of activities that our teachers come up with. There’s nothing better than getting out of the classroom and having a great time with your mates!

Noelia

Brisbane Photo Contest - Noelia - Sign Saying &Quot;You Are Welcome Here&Quot;

“I’m Noelia Bastón from IELTS class! I just want to participate in the PHOTO CONTEST with this photo.
The topic is about Brisbane and I think that this picture express the feelings of international students pretty well.
I know it’s an unusual photo but I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!!

This heartwarming image expresses exactly the environment we hope to create here in Brisbane and at Lexis. Everyone is welcome; everyone belongs. We are a family.

“Brisbane at night without filters”

The colours of the Brisbane River at night are a sight to behold! Who needs filters when you look this good?

Taya

“I took this picture at Wellington point in last week. I really impressed the cool couple on the red car. I feel I watched romantic movie scene .”

This photo gives us a glimpse of seaside living, which is a wonderful reality for many residents of Brisbane. Taya is right – this picture could have been taken from a movie.

Julia

Julia Kolle - Brisbane Photo Contest Entry A Photo Of An Emu Painting.

Julia’s photo got an honorable mention from our judges! This photo not only shows off the awesome street art around Brisbane, the emu is quintessentially Australian.

Brisbane Photo Contest Winners

Of course, there can only be three prizewinners! These were the entries that our judges felt best captured the essence of our fair city. Each of our 3 winning photographers received a summer prize pack, which included some cool summer essentials to beat the heat.

In third place was…

Mario

Mario Garzon Photo

This beautiful photo was taken from the rooftop of the Emporium Hotel in Southbank. It showcases the stunning colours of Brisbane’s evening skyline and features some of our most recognisable landmarks, such as the artificial beach and Wheel of Brisbane. And how about that pink and purple sunset!

In second place…

Santiago

Santiago Photo 2 Scaled

In this photo, Santiago has captured the architectural beauty of our historical Treasury Casino building, glowing against the backdrop of a golden Brisbane sunset. The juxtaposition of history and culture with the rush of modern life reminds us how lucky we are to live in such a picturesque and inspiring city.

And finally, first place was taken out by…

Natsuki

Natsuki Photo Scaled

Anyone who has experienced Brisbane during the springtime will be familiar with our fabulous Jacaranda trees, which bring the city to life every year with their vibrant, purple blooms. Our Brisbane students will have no trouble recognising the water fountain at Roma St Parklands, which is a popular spot to chill out, have a barbeque, and take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Congratulations to Natsuki for capturing this quintessential Brisbane scene!

We would like to thank all of our students who submitted a picture to the competition. It’s always a joy to see the city through the eyes of a newcomer! We hope that our contestants had as much fun taking the photos as we did viewing them.
