Finding the balance between rigorous study and rejuvenating experiences is essential. Our wonderful FCE teacher, Dee, understands the importance of giving her students opportunities to step away from their textbooks and immerse themselves in the real-world application of their language skills. So, on Tuesday, Dee organised a day trip to stunning Stradbroke Island.

Stradbroke Island, affectionately known as ‘Straddie’ to locals, is a pristine paradise just a short ferry ride away from the mainland. Its unspoiled beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush bushland provide the perfect backdrop for a day of relaxation and adventure.

Upon arrival, no time was wasted in delving into the island’s treasures, kicking off the adventure with a guided hike through the island’s scenic trails. Students had the chance to practise their English conversation skills while marvelling at the diverse flora and fauna.

We caught up with Anna to find out about her experience studying FCE at Lexis English Brisbane.

Why did you choose to study at Lexis English Brisbane?

Well, when I was in Spain, I met with a student advisor who recommended Lexis to me. I am really happy that she did.

Which course are you studying and what are your study goals?

I am currently taking the Cambridge FCE class. I have three main goals: most importantly to pass the exam next month, but I’d also like to improve my English and continue to study to increase my knowledge.

How would you describe your experience at Lexis English Brisbane?

I am really happy to be here. I know that my English has improved a lot, and that excites me. In terms of the differences between a Cambridge course and a General English course, well, they are almost like apples and oranges. General English was really easy for me, whereas Cambridge FCE is much harder, more demanding, and requires a lot more focus.

What advice would you give to prospective FCE/CAE students?

If you really want to join a Cambridge class, you have to be aware of the difficulties. You must be willing to give up some of your free time, as you need to focus on both your homework and the exams.
