How to Improve your English through Writing.

“But teacher, why do we have to do a writing task? The weather is beautiful, can’t we go to the beach?” I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have heard a student ask this question, even more so with a beautiful campus situated right on the beach. But, as I said to each individual, and as I will state right now, writing is an imperative part of improving your level. In fact, it could be regarded as one of the most crucial aspects in learning how to improve your English.

As you go on your Lexis journey, you’ll explore many avenues of each of the core skills – Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. However, the temptation may be to focus on the first three rather than Writing as these are usually more engaging and active topics. Is writing an out of date skill? If so, how can you improve your English through writing?

The more you write in English the more you are putting what you are learning into practice. You may not be comfortable writing with a pen and paper, or perhaps writing on the computer is too distracting. Whatever the case may be, it is important that you write down as much as you can to see whether what you have spent many hours learning is actually going into your brain.

There are a few reasons why Writing is an imperative component of English language acquisition.

  1. Cement the ideas.

Writing down what you have learnt in the class, you’ll lock in and have evidence that you fully comprehend what is taught in class.

  1. Practice spelling.

Not only will you be able to see your ideas, but you’ll also be able to check whether the spelling is correct.

  1. Visualize the grammar.

Simply speaking about Grammar is not the way to go. Writing down the formulas allows you to get a visual perspective of the grammar.

  1. Format your thoughts.

When it comes to essay writing tasks, the more time that you have spent writing down thoughts and ideas, the more opportunity you’ll have of formulating them to correct structure.

Improve your English through writing.

Writing can be a daunting task. It can often lead to confusion and misunderstanding, especially when it comes to spelling and grammatical structures. However, from years of experience, we can assure you that the more that you write, the more that you will improve your overall English level.
