On Sunday 16th October, students embarked on a full day trip to Yuraygir National Park, one of the most diverse bioregions in Australia.
This is the second time Rueben from the Byron Bay Travel Company has facilitate this special trip for our students.
The trips itinerary included swimming at Angourie’s Blue Pools, BBQ lunch at Yamba Main Beach, seeing wild kangaroos in Yuraygir National Park and the stunning coastal formations at Red Cliff.
The journey from Byron Bay to Yuraygir is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, however our trip was longer as it included important pitstops along the way.
First, students stopped in Yamba and Angourie to enjoy the beach, blue pools, cliff jumping and a tasty picnic lunch.
Yuraygir National Park comprises coastal landforms, rainforest, forest, woodland and wetlands.
Yuraygir has strong spiritual significance to the Aboriginal community. The Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr aboriginal peoples lived off the land and would hold ceremonies in Yuraygir.
Red Rock is part of Yuraygir coastal walk. From May to November Humpback whales travel north and can usually be seen from the Yuraygir coastal walk.
In Spring the park also provides a dazzling display of wildflowers. The park’s wildlife includes wild kangaroos, emus (an endangered species with less than 100 left in the park), white-bellied sea eagles, yellow-tailed black cockatoos and many other rare and threatened species.
Students had a wonderful day together and are excited to join future weekend trips with the Byron Bay Travel Company.

On the Labour Day public holiday, students spent the day discovering the incredible Crystal Castle and Minyon Falls. Crystal Castle is a private estate full of lush rainforest, flowers, shrines and many stunning crystals. Minyon Falls is in the eastern area of Nightcap National Park. The Minyon Falls lookout offers spectacular views of the waterfall and rainforest.
On Sunday 18th September, students embarked on a full day trip to Nimbin and Nightcap National Park. The trips itinerary included swimming at a secret blue lake with optional cliff jumping, lunch in Nimbin and visiting a hidden waterfall in Nightcap National Park. Our trip coincided with the Nimbin MardiGrass, a peaceful protest for the personal use of cannabis, so Nimbin was crowded with interesting people and smoke. Nimbin is a hippie destination, with eclectic shops and a vibrant arts and alternative health scene. Nightcap National Park contains World Heritage-listed rainforests and an abundance of wildlife including rare, vulnerable and threatened species. You can also spot wild Koalas in Nightcap National Park.
