Where are they now?
We’re asking some past staff and students to tell us a bit about what’s happening now in their life after Lexis. This week we interview the lovely Homestay Co-ordinator Claire!

Where are you now?
Currently in Darwin, at the top of the Northern Territory. Going to explore Kakadu National Park for a few days from tomorrow, then driving down through the centre of Oz to South Australia (looking forward to the wineries and cooler weather, it’s 38° right now!).
Exploring the Daintree Rainforest/Cape Tribulation
How long did you work at Lexis?
I worked for 2 and a half years as Student Services and Activities officer, then left to work elsewhere for 6 months but missed Lexis too much so came back to take over the Homestay Co-ordinator role, which I did for 8 months.
When did you leave, and where did you go?
I left in April when the school had to close due to Covid.
I felt very fortunate to be in Byron Bay during this time and enjoyed a few months being on ‘holiday’ in the beautiful town that had been my home for 6 years. My husband and I then packed up our car and began our travels around Oz! We drove up the East Coast into Far North Queensland, then inland to the Northern Territory.
Our camping set up!
What was a highlight of working at Lexis English?
The people! It was the best team of people I have ever worked with and I genuinely loved coming to work every day. There was always lots of laughter and never a dull moment! I also loved meeting students from all over the world and formed many great friendships, with staff and students, during my time at Lexis.

What do you miss about Byron Bay?
Again, the people! My wonderful friends who are still there, and in general the people in Byron are always so friendly and happy! I also miss the beaches and seeing dolphins.

Tell us about what life’s like now:
Life is good! I feel very grateful that we have the opportunity to travel Australia. We’ve been to so many amazing places so far and I’m really excited for the rest of our adventure.
We’re not sure what we’ll do when we’ve finished our travels but for now we’re just enjoying each day .
