We are thrilled to welcome 2 new students from Japan and Italy!
Karin comes from Japan! She is 30 years old and was born and raised in Okinawa. She has lots of hobbies, such as reading books, cooking, and playing the piano. She used to work as a dietitian at a hospital. Since there are many foreigners in her hometown, she decided to improve her English skills so she can communicate better with them. She would like to become a Japanese language teacher in the future, so becoming more fluent in English will help her. She is excited about experiencing Australia and making friends in Byron Bay. She will stay at Lexis Byron for 10 weeks, and we really hope she has the best time. Welcome, Karin!
Gloria comes from Italy! She is 24 years old and lives in the north of Italy, near Venice. She is into sports; she likes skiing and rock climbing. She’s lucky because she lives close to the mountains, like the Dolomites, which is a very popular place. She studied economics at university and is interested in tourism and its impact on climate change. She’s been in Australia for one and a half months, working as an au pair with a host family. She is looking forward to improving her English skills and living the Australian life. Getting better at English will help her with future jobs, since most of her customers will be foreigners. The day started early with everyone gathering to take their placement tests. This helped us asses their English levels, making sure they are in the right class to get the most out of their time here.
After the tests, the students joined Rita for an orientation session where she gave them all the information, they need about the school and what’s ahead. They also got to meet Luke from Let’s Go Surfing and Chiara from Dundee. Luke shared some cool tips about the local surf scene, and Chiara talked about weekend trips and activities around Byron Bay. It was a great way to set the tone for an exciting and diverse adventure.
Next, the students joined their new classmates for the last hour of the morning class. It was a great way to ease into things and get a feel for the learning vibe here at Lexis. Then it was lunchtime—the perfect chance to chill out, grab some food, and start making new friends.
