On yesterday’s walk and talk we hiked to Byron’s towering graffitied water tank and the lookouts at Arakwal National Park (Arakwal). The Arakwal lookouts present stunning panoramic views of Main Beach, Tallow Beach, Broken Head Beach and inland.
On arrival at the water tank, students were rewarded with arguably the best panoramic views of Byron’s beaches and natural surroundings. The historic Byron Bay lighthouse could be seen in the distance. From May to November Humpback whales travel north past Cape Byron headland and can be seen from the lookout, we spotted a few!
If you are interested in independently visiting the water tank and Arakwal’s lookouts, they are only a 15-minute (uphill) walk from the Lexis Byron Bay campus.
Arakwal National Park is an important part of Aboriginal heritage, it’s a haven for migratory birds and animals and a lovely escape from Byron’s bustling main town.
