On Sunday 18th September, students embarked on a full day trip to Nimbin and Nightcap National Park.

The trips itinerary included swimming at a secret blue lake with optional cliff jumping, lunch in Nimbin and visiting a hidden waterfall in Nightcap National Park.

The journey from Byron Bay to Nimbin is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, and Nightcap National Park is approximately 20 minutes outside of the Nimbin township.

Our trip coincided with the Nimbin MardiGrass, a peaceful protest for the personal use of cannabis, so Nimbin was crowded with interesting people and smoke.

Nimbin is a hippie destination, with eclectic shops and a vibrant arts and alternative health scene.

Nightcap National Park contains World Heritage-listed rainforests and an abundance of wildlife including rare, vulnerable and threatened species.

You can spot wild Koalas in Nightcap National Park.

Nightcap National Park is home to many threatened frogs and you can hear their chorus, a distinctive ‘arrrrrrk’.

Nightcap National Park has strong spiritual significance to the Aboriginal community. The Bundjalung and Widjabul aboriginal peoples lived off the land and still hold ceremonies in Nightcap National Park.

Rueben from the Byron Bay Travel Company ran this trip for our students. Students had a wonderful day together and are excited to join future weekend trips with the Byron Bay Travel Company.
