Today students showcased their artistic talent in our craft activity painting vases!
There are subtle but important differences when it comes to painting on glass compared to conventional surfaces like wood and canvas. You need to prime your glassware, use the right paint, let the finished product dry and finally seal or cure the painted glass if you want it to last and be dishwasher safe.
We used primary colour paints (red, blue and yellow), white and black paint. Everyone was familiar with the colour wheel and knew how to create new colours from primary colours. Additionally, there was a variety of brushes, cotton buds, a sponge and some glitter for students to use at their liberty.
Time flew by as we enjoyed painting and conversing. When discussing art, the emphasis is taken off of accuracy and put onto fluency, expressing thoughts and ideas. For this reason, it can be great for students impeded by a fear of making mistakes.
