Mandala is Sanskrit for “circle,” however, mandala art can take any symmetrical shape. In Buddhism the creation process is connected to meditation. Creating mandala art is a process that invites you to think, relax and be creative.
It was a splendid day, so we sat outside under the shade of trees to draw our mandalas.
While working on our art, we played music and had conversations on the topics of art, friendship, living abroad, good food and more. When discussing art, the emphasis is taken off of accuracy and put onto fluency, expressing thoughts and ideas. For this reason, it can be great for students impeded by a fear of making mistakes.
The initial activity plan was to also paint the mandalas with coffee, however drawing the mandalas took far longer than expected. Natalia, Giselle and Leidy were enjoying the process and conversations so much they stayed 2-hours over the activity time to finish.
