Byron Bay – Lighthouse

Cape Byron Lighthouse

At Australia’s most easterly point you will find the Byron Bay Lighthouse. It’s an iconic view of the Pacific Ocean, with many trekking at dawn to catch the first light of sunrise. The lighthouse at Cape Byron is also one of the town’s most visited attractions.

The lighthouse has remained in operation since 1901.

The Cape Byron Lighthouse was operated by resident keepers until 1989. It is now an automated light managed and maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

Because the lighthouse is at the most easterly point of Australia, you can be the first to see the sunrise at Cape Byron Headland. Every day there are people waiting to witness the first light. Most days you’ll be lucky enough to see dolphins, turtles and whales during whale season!

Make sure to visit the lighthouse when you’re in Byron Bay!
