Today our Happy Student at Lexis Byron Bay is Juan!
Tell us a little about yourself:
I like to think I’m funny, smart and easy-going, or at least that’s what I write when I apply to a bedroom in the shire. Like a proper Byron Bay life lover, I enjoy surfing, skating, doing yoga, traveling, the ocean, the sun, the moon and a glass of white wine at sunset. However, I can also be pretty boring and enjoy doing the same activities every day, and spending time at home.
Why did you choose Byron Bay?
Byron Bay is a beautiful place to live. It can be a bit pretentious sometimes, but it has a strong alternative culture inspired by the amazing nature that surrounds it. It’s difficult to be here for a while without becoming more aware of a lifestyle that prioritises respect for nature, as well as spiritual development and healthcare.

What were your weaknesses in English before you came to Australia? Tell me more about your teachers and your classes.
Lexis classes helped me a lot to improve my English in all aspects: pronunciation, speaking fluently, vocabulary, grammar…
Teachers at Lexis have been great. They combine knowledge and professionalism with kindness and empathy. The classes can be hardwork as well as challenging and enjoyable. It’s also a great opportunity to meet people and make friends from all over the world.

What are your favourite things to do in Byron?
There are plenty of things to do in and around Byron: from a coffee and pie at a bakery, or an ice-cream at the lighthouse, to a surf in Watagos, the Pass or Broken Head. I also enjoy rolling sushi at the main beach while listening to live music, walking around the Arakwal reserve, and swimming in the tea tree lake.
What is your most magical moment in Byron?
You can’t beat a day in which you find time to do everything. Yoga and surf at the first hour in the morning, studying, working (why not?), and spending time with friends. I also enjoy morning light at the beach when everything seems calm and alive at the same time, and it’s easier to reach to a meditative state.
What do you like most about Lexis Byron?
What I liked most about Lexis was to meet a lot of different people. To learn about their cultures through their stories, and to have fun and enjoy while learning.
