Byron Bay- Happy Student!- 15 February 2024

This month’s happy student is Marco!

Marco has been with us for 20 weeks, his overall stay is 24 weeks.  Marco joins us from the German speaking part of Switzerland. He is a ray of sunshine and always has a smile on his face. He loves to join activities and make conversation with his peers! I interviewed him to get to know a little more about him, and why he came to study in Byron Bay

Happy Student!

Why did you choose Lexis Byron Bay?

My Grandma was speaking to me about learning English in another country, I was first going to choose the USA, but then heard about Australia and the homestay program and decided that no risk = no fun!

Australia is also very beautiful!

What were your weaknesses in English before studying at Lexis?

My main weakness was grammar. But over the five months my English has gotten much better. I was in elementary and now I am in intermediate!

Tell us about your teachers and classes

In elementary my teacher was Elizabeth. I really liked that class. It was not too fast, but also not too slow. it was easy to learn and the classes were funny too!

In intermediate I have Lel and Adrienne. Lel is easy to understand and speaks slowly which makes learning easier. Adrienne is very funny, and she uses movement in her classes to help us understand better.

I also had Rain who was my favorite! We always sung in class which I loved so much.

How is your homestay?

Really good! It was strange at first getting used to living with another family but now I really like it. my host mother speaks with me a lot when we eat dinner which is so nice.

It was hard to get used to the temperature difference in Australia though- it is so humid!

What are your favorite things about Byron Bay?

All of it! I did come to Byron Bay expecting I would like it though.

I love the tour we went on out to see the glow worm caves, it was so beautiful!

I also love the food, especially the burgers here! Burgers are my favorite food.

When I saw a snake in person for the first time! I love snakes, I think they are such beautiful and interesting animals.

I was walking though town and saw one along the street. I was so happy when I saw it.

When I was in Switzerland I was wishing to see a snake in real life and I did!

I also got to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Sydney with my partner and best friend (who I met at Lexis). That was really special and beautiful.
