Byron Bay- Happy Student!- 13 March 2024

This month’s happy student is Fabiola!

Fab has been with us for 16 weeks and she graduated last Friday!  Fabiola joins us from the German speaking part of Switzerland. She is a radiant, bubbly person who is always excited to give new things a try. She loved to join in of afternoon activities and converse with her peers. Whilst she was in Australia Fabiola achieved her First Aid certificate and also went to Cairns for her scuba diving certification! She had an amazing time, and also made some really great friends.  We interviewed her to get to know a little more about her, and why she came to study in Byron Bay!

Our Happy Student!

Why did you choose Byron?

I was originally planning to go to Nashville because I love country music, but, unfortunately, I was too late with the visa application.

So  my agent, instead, recommended Ireland, Canada, Auckland or Byron. I chose Byron because it was somewhere far away, it was summer, and I could learn to surf.

Why did you want to learn English and did you achieve your goals?

Back in Switzerland, I work in a Golf Club, where we have many international tournaments. I can already speak French, which helps, but being able to speak English well will make my job much easier.

My English used to  be better, but I lost it when I lived in the French part of Switzerland for a year to practise French. My goal was to improve my speaking and I have achieved this at Lexis. I now feel much more confident in conversations.

What did you love best about Byron

Definitely, the atmosphere and its chilled vibe.

I spent a lot of time at the beach, either with friends or just reading a book.  I also really enjoyed spending time with my host (I was in a homestay). We had some great talks, and he took me to places around Byron, for example to a meditation in Mullumbimby and a tour of Brunswick, Bangalow and other local villages.

I also did learn to surf.

What did you like most about studying at Lexis Byron Bay.

Being able to have conversations with other students from all over the world. I made a lot of friends and my listening skills have really improved.

I also enjoyed the afternoon activity program. I did lots of activities but two of my favourites were tennis (I had never played before) and stand up paddleboarding.

What was the most memorable moment of your trip?

The whole trip is one great memory with lots of little highlights. One of the best highlights for me was going to Sydney for New Years to watch the fireworks.

And what happens next?

Tonight is my last night. I’m flying home tomorrow, and my parents will pick me up from airport. Then, on Wednesday, I’m straight back to work where we have the big opening of a new restaurant at the golf club.

At the end of her course, she brought in a beautiful box filled with Swiss treats and chocolate to say thank you to the staff at Lexis for her amazing experience here.

We will miss Fabiola and wish her all the best for her future!
