Exciting Stand up paddle boarding in the rain
On Tuesday, Lexis students went to our beautiful neighbour town Brunswick Heads, and jumped on some Paddle boards to float on the Brunswick river.
Brunswick Heads is a picturesque coastal village, situated at the mouth of the Brunswick river. Only 15 minutes away from beautiful Byron Bay, the river is surrounded by the Brunswick Heads Nature reserve which lies on the traditional land of the Bundjalung people.
The reserve contains a rainforest which supports a diverse range of wildlife.
Stand-up paddle boarding, also known by the acronym SUP, is one of the fastest-growing board sports in the world.
SUP is a subclass of paddle boarding, a broader concept that also includes the use of arms while kneeling, lying, or standing on a narrow and long paddleboard to move around in the water.
The students got picked up after school from our friendly local surf team Lets Go Surfing! They enjoyed a little instruction on how to use SUP’s and then everyone tried to stand up on the water themselves.
They paddled upstream through Mangroves and could spot a few Australian birds and also some mud crabs!
The rain hasn’t spoilt their fun, all the students enjoyed their stand up paddle boarding experience and will surely join again!
After their stand up paddle boarding the students went for some snacks and drinks into the Brunswick town Centre.
